But that’s the only good thing about it, now we only follow and do what our job is and not do someone else’s job because it isn’t yours to do. We have a mindset of only doing what we’re supposed to do and not change our ways for the best. In time when our climate crisis gets worst we need to step out of our comfortable zones in our jobs and start to contribute to helping it. An example of my life is when I see something on the television about how global warming is affecting everyone and we should start doing things to help prevent it. I start to bike to school instead of getting a drive and I start shutting the lights off when I’m not using it but soon after a week I go back to what I used to do because no one else around me does it. Even though we see this online, on TV, and on the news, we still won’t change our lifestyles. For example, if we were to see a commercial where people around the world are homeless and starving we feel terrible thinking that we wasted food the other day, but this disappears when our favorite show comes on next and we forget all about the homeless people. This is what Pollan is trying to tell us to change about it but changing the way we live is a big commitment that not everyone can do, especially when it might not even impact the issue that much. “Whatever we do manage to do, it will be too little too late” (212), after what Pollan said, it helps us understand that Pollan is normal like us. He also adds that their will always be a “doppelganger in Shanghai or Chongqing who has just bought their first car” (210), trying to tell us that there is someone always doing the opposite of him. He creates a relationship with the readers when he used this point that gets the reader’s attention and connect with them.
