A good leader can inspire you to complete your tasks by giving you the expectations and allowing you to acomplish this task. By making you feel like you are a part of a bigger picture and helping you realize that your contribution makes more of a difference than you realize then you will work harder not only for your self but for your fellow soldiers. This comes from providing purpose, enforcing standards but also balancing the mission and the welfare of your followers. A toxic leader takes on the role of a manager. This is someone who is in charge only by virtue of position or rank. They will use this higher power to direct you because you have to listen to him or her instead of appealing to your sense of duty. A toxic leader cares more of the completion of the task at hand and doesn 't take into consideration that his subordinates are real people with real life problems. He will push for completion but micromanage the entire process, never allowing his subordinates to learn and grow while completing the task. This decreases productivity and morale because instead of allowing someone with the know how to complete the mission his way you are forcing them to do it your way. A good leader should take them time to self reflect and identify their own strengths and weaknesses. It is imparative to know what you are capable of. There is no shame in admitting that there is something that you cannot do. What is important is what you plan on doing to address this weakness. If you make the effort to make a weakness into a strength then not only will you become better as a person but your men and women will see that you are always striving to be better. If your subordinates see that you can over come hurdles then they themselves can over come these same problems. 7-50 tells us that we should maintain mental and physical health and well-being, expand knowledge of technical, technological and tactical areas and analyzes and organizes information to create knowledge. Having only ever been an Infantryman I can recall several times that I have seen lack of preparation from both NCOs and Officers. I know that I myself am guilty of these as well from time to time so I understand that there will be times that you are not as prepared as you should be or as well prepared as you thought you were; however I have seen blatant lack of preparation that has stemed from the lack of caring or passion.
