The Arguments Against Animal Experimentation

Recent studies have revealed that more than one million animals die every year due to animal experimentation. Testing is legal in more than eighty percent of the world. There are extremely few countries that are cruelty free or are working on being cruelty free such as, The United States, Taiwan, Canada, Brazil, Australia and others. More than one million animals die due to experimentation. People have created organizations like PETA (people for the ethical treatment of animals), CAAT (center for alternatives for animal testing) and the ECEAE (European coalition to end animal experiments) do everything in their power to prevent more countries from supporting animal testing and cruelty. The first tests were taken place in the b.c and a.d time periods, by Greek scientists, Aristotle and Erasistratus. During this time period tests were used to acquire knowledge about complex procedures and learning. A PETA (people for the ethical treatment of animals) member by the name of Nicole went undercover to a cosmetic testing factory. She found that the company was using animals to test their products. Majority of animals used for experimentation are rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, monkeys, and hamsters. She witnessed the gruesome condition the creatures were in. The animals are kept in cramped cages, just waiting to be put to test. When the defenseless animal is chosen they automatically become fearful of humans. Once they undergo testing the amount of fear they have becomes too much for them to handle. If they survive they suffer from bizarre and psychotic behavior, like spinning in circles, rocking back and forth, pulling their fur out and causing physical harm to themselves.
