The argumentative essay was widely regarded as the hardest essay we are going to have to type this year. The hardest part, in my opinion, was to heavily implement our voice so that we did not turn this into a research paper. The essay was more I had always thought of myself as a good writer, so I thought college writing would not be too hard. This was not the thought when I got my first rough draft back. I then knew college writing was going to be harder than I expected. This was my first time realizing that I was going to have to step out of my comfort zone as a writer, and step up my game. Good writing requires writers to reflect, and the challenge of this essay made me look at my writing and dive deeper into myself to pull out what necessary to get an A, which ultimately led me to growing as a writer.

The hardest part of the writing process was putting together our first rough draft. This was the most challenging part as it required us to write our first college paper, which was graded heavily like a rough draft. This was not a rough draft you submitted to just get points, and I soon

I will be the first one to admit, my first rough draft was horrible, and one of the main perpetrators of the cause was my terrible grammar. This was bad throughout the whole paper as I had misspellings, comma splices, run-on sentences, and a decent amount of conjunctions. Getting a mediocre grade on the rough draft made me start proofreading more and with this helping my grammar tremendously. The second place where I feel like I grew was that i found my voice as a writer. In the beginning I was struggling to find my voice, using it minimally at best. The argumentative paper really made me implement more of my voice which I think helped me grow more as a writer and will benefit me more in the future as i will be looking to develop this

A writing experience that has stood out the most for me was when I was a sophomore in High School. There was a girl in my class who I wasn't so fond of who one day decided to announce to everyone that she had begun to write her own stories. She showed everyone pieces of her writings expecting to get nothing but compliments and be to deemed the class writer, but when she finally showed me her work I cringed at how deplorable it was. The stories had no clear perspective of whether it was written in first person or third person view, some of the simplest of words were spelled wrong, and many words were used in the wrong context. The class didn't seem to care for her stories so they just gave standard responses with no words for…

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

My experiences with writing have been somewhat limited until I signed up for English 101. I have to admit that English was not my favorite subject in school. I never felt like I was any good at writing, and spelling is still not my strong suit. I always felt like I was better at math. My attitude towards writing was my biggest hindrance to my success.…

I wrote one “source-based argumentative essay” in high school: my final essay from sophomore English. The guidelines were to write a four to eight page paper on any topic of your choice, but the thesis of the paper had to come across clearly. At the time, my personal goals were to write about something no one else would, as well as get an A in the class. As a future collegiate writer, I feel as though I have the habits and potential strengths to be successful, but my biggest weakness is that I do not know how to write a professional essay and I am a reluctant editor.…

One of the most important thing I have learned in this course that has positively affected my confidence in my writing skills is the concept of writing a “shitty first draft”. In my midterm self-assessment, I discussed how I thought I was among one of the unlucky ones that was not blessed with natural writing skills. However, through class discussions, I’ve learned that one of the most important competent of professional writing is the need for constant revision. Contrary to popular believe, writing does not come easy to anyone. In order to successfully produce professional writing, it is important that one plan, draft, revise, and edit his or her work.…

Terrified, I thought to myself “All I have ever learned was this format, how am I going to pass this class?”. There were many challenges I went through throughout the semester. One of the challenges I found very difficult was writing an introduction because I wasn’t sure how to properly introduce a topic. Another challenge was that I didn’t know how to create a hook interesting enough to get the reader wanting more. An example of this is my first essay in which I wrote, “The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is an extraordinary book filled with constant suspense.”.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a handful of things about myself as a writer, that will help me develop as a more proficient writer over the course of my four years here. As a writer one of my strengths is backing up my argument with solid and concrete evidence that truly makes the reader believe what they are reading. Another area of my writing that I excel in is being able to process great ideas that follow the guidelines and the prompt. With that being said I have also seen that while the ideas may come with ease, I do have a challenging time with getting the ideas from my head onto paper in a manner that isn’t so disorganized that it makes the reader second guess themselves. Another shaky part of my writing comes much before the actual forming of sentences.…
