World peace has longed been fought for, both on the battlefields and in the courtrooms; it's a myth that is hopelessly complicated and unattainable: or at least that’s what we are told. The creators of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” use the archetypal Byronic hero Tony Stark and allusions to the bible to convey the idea of war and peace and how there are different ways to achieve peace. Tony Stark’s traits are parallel to that of a Byronic hero, an antihero who is typically rebellious, arrogant, intelligent, self critical, and very passionate, which helps convey the theme of peace. In the movie, Stark’s vision of his friends all dead leads him to believe that the best way to help protect the world and his friends is to create something that could do the Avengers work. Ultron came to the conclusion that, despite knowing that the Avengers were “good people” and that they “mean well”, “there is only one path to peace... [their] extinction.” Ultron decides to eradicate humanity so that “upon this rock [he] will build [his] church.” He references Noah’s ark because he believes that humanity needs a cleansing and as “the Earth starts to settle, God (Ultron) throws a stone at it,” stating that he is ready to smite the Earth in order to bring peace.
