The expansion upon my idea of targeting can be had through the fact that all of the content of which I included was content that I believed to appeal to the average college student. For example, the article referring to tuition combined with the photograph of the graduation cap thrown upon money was set as the main headline due to the fact that it has been noted, through my experience, that college students are very concerned about tuition and are very content with the idea of graduating and having or saving money. Illustrating my idea of the concept of appearance manipulation is the bolding of certain words, along with the addition of a red implied line. This was done through my thought that this manipulation would subliminally catch the student’s eye and carry them throughout the entire article. The twenty four hour time slot means that despite the fact of no actual news occurring the media still has to continue reporting or re-reporting news stories and developments without sounding repetitive in order to maintain the public’s attention. This means that much of the time can be filled with non-news fluff or even nonfactual and vastly opinionated material. The effect of the fiercely competitive market means that some media sources may decide to stop reporting what their selected target group needs to hear about the world and its affairs and only what their target group wants to hear.
