Logos is an appeal to logic or reason in order to prove a point which essentially serves as a way of persuading an audience. In the third 2016 Presidential Debate, both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump strategically appealed to logos in effective ways to really grasp their audience’s attention as well as their future votes for this upcoming election in November. In the opening segment of the first 10 minute discussion, Chris Wallace asked Hillary why she felt that the Supreme Court was wrong about the second amendment on the right to bear arms. Clinton shared her opinion and later stated ".... we have thirty three thousand people a year who die from guns. I think we need comprehensive background checks, need to close the gun show loophole." Logos is persuading one’s audience by using reasoning, such as with evidence, expert testimony, and common sense; Susan Jacoby uses every one of these to further her argument. One example is her use of the quote by Justice Hugo L. Black in which he stated “the Federal Government is without any power whatsoever under the Constitution to put any type of burden on free speech and expression of ideas of any kind (as distinguished from conduct)” (Jacoby 43). This quote is great evidence that the government supports Jacoby’s argument against controls on pornography, as it supports the “expression of ideas of any kind”. Another example is her use of polling women about their reaction to a picture in Penthouse magazine.…

Logos, or the means of persuasion by use of reasoning, is a very effective rhetorical strategy that appeals to the reader’s logic. Not only is logos Aristotle’s favorite form of rhetoric but, it is the most widely used rhetorical form. Logos is composed of both inductive and deductive reasoning and in “Does the internet make you dumb” Nicholas car uses both to prove his thesis that the internet is turning us into “superficial and scatterbrained thinkers (Carr 218). He believes the internet is a huge distraction and is being overused.…

Hillary Clinton is the first woman to ever win the nomination of one of the two major parties. This seems to be the main reason why she believes that she should be president. Instead of focusing her campaign on policy issues, she has made the whole thing about “making history.” This approach to the election is eerily similar to the strategy that Barack Obama used in 2008, where he distracted the voters from the real issues by using the “race card” and the notion of electing the first black president. Hillary has done the same, except she is using the “woman card” instead of the “race card.”…

According to Aristotle, logos is an appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason. Obama goes back and states facts, statistics and historical events where he had been successful as president. Obama does this to persuade the audience to continue his successes and to fight equal rights. He does this by listing several statistics on inequality, for example, “ Health care costs are rising at the slowest rate in 50 years. And I’ve said, and I mean it, anyone can put together a plan that is demonstrably better than the improvements we’ve made to our health care system, that covers as many people at less cost, I will publicly support it.”…
