The Aphorism: My Soul

Decent Essays
If the sky is the limit, why are there footprints on the moon? The aphorism by Jim Carrey, “My soul is not contained within the limits of my body; my body is contained within the limitlessness of my soul”, helps me remember it every day. I portray “my soul” as my ideas, dreams, and goals. An aphorism is a wise saying or quote that contains words of truth, lasting meaning, or inspiration. The aphorism inspires people to do big things in life and reminds young readers to exploit their creativity while they still have an abundance of it. Before I adopted the aphorism into my life, I did not like to task risks and go the extra mile while doing my work. As I progressed in school I learned you have to do more than just the work assigned in order

Willa Cather once said, “The end is nothing; the road is all.”. This quote means that the end of a journey is not as important as the journey itself. While it may seem that it is talking about traveling on road, the quote itself is metaphoric in that the road and a journey are being compared. Some may argue that this isn’t true, but I agree with the quote. I think Willa Cather’s quote is genuine and meaningful because of my own life experiences.…

The concept of perfection is something that cannot be reached or can be achieved because if you have nothing to redeem then you have nothing to gain. Just as a caterpillar is to a butterfly, redemption is to success. Although they may seem like opposites, they actually are very much alike because you need one to have the other. One must recognize a fault that they have suffered and learn from it to better one’s self and eventually teach it to others. The idea of redemption through failure because perfection will not help one’s worth is evident in Sir Gawain and The Green Knight by Simon Armitage and in modern day society.…

The Argument for the Immortality of the Soul When Socrates and Meno are halted in their argument by a paradox, Socrates proposes a new idea that will solve the paradox and continue their conversation. He states that the soul is immortal and it has learned everything in past lives. Thus, what men call learning is actually a process of recollection. I will first be giving context as to how this idea came into the dialogue with Meno. Next, I will explain how he puts the same idea forward in Phaedo and then noting the differences between the two dialogues.…
