The excessive medical cost from measles, mumps and rubella can be a burden to the taxpayers (Milligan & Barrett, 2014). The military has long history with vaccinations, going back to George Washington (Milligan & Barrett, 2014). Vaccinations have not only protected us financially but also physically. Epidemiologic surveillance is the process of an organization tracking the development of a particular disease (Milligan & Barrett, 2014), which the government does in order to prevent and contain epidemics before they get out of hand. So why might a parent exempt their child from vaccinations? Some states set up exemption laws to be easier than getting your child vaccinated (Wang, Clymer, Davis-Hayes and Buttenheim, 2014). Multiple vaccines and many doctor visits can take time and patients that some just cannot afford (Wang, Clymer, Davis-Hayes and Buttenheim, 2014).
