As the former president of South Africa said, “there can be no keener revelation of a society 's soul than the way in which it treats its children” (Mandela). Nelson Mandela said this during the launch of his Children’s foundation, which helps support grief stricken children in Africa. He started this foundation in order to protect and benefit children so that the next generation will be better than the last. Society presents innumerable amount ideas and morals that influence children, and that shape the very essence of who children will become as they mature. This has served factual through history where parents and mentors efforts to raise them shape an adult’s character and morality. This child parent relationship occurs in in Shakespeare’s play Macbeth where Shakespeare uses the motif of children to illustrate which main characters stand as moral in the novel. This can be compared to how throughout the history United States generations are judged based on the actions and morality of the succeeding generation.
To illustrate this relationship Shakespeare uses the lack of children to showcase the immorality of a character such as in his character Lady Macbeth. Firstly Shakespeare establishes the fact that Lady Macbeth fills the role of a truly immoral character saying, “ I have given suck, and know/ How tender ’tis to love the babe that milks me;/ I would, while it was smiling in my face/, Have pluck’d my nipple from his boneless gums/, And dash’d the brains out, had I so…
