Background on Boko Haram
The Boko Haram is a terrorist organization whose belief is that the western way of education is a sin. By virtue of this, all of the thirty six states in Nigeria have to shun this ‘sin’, this western education and embrace the Islamic system of education. The Islamic system of education is in such a way that a child is brought up to learn and memorize the entire Quran in Arabic (not their native language), while also learning a few mainstream courses on the side. Now, the issue is that, you cannot practice the Islamic system of education without actually being a Muslim. And right there, is where it all hits a brick wall. Later in the year, 21 people were left dead after an attack on the United Nations building. A media house, This Day newspaper has been bombed. The Nigerian state of Jos, which has the highest concentration of foreigners due to its cold climate has been bombed on innumerable occasions. As at this year, church services have also been disrupted by bombings.
A deliberate act of wickedness
Some people might argue that, the founder’s death was responsible for their callousness. But this was a man who had coordinated several attacks on the police force, surely, he was a man destined to die young. Even at that, it leaves us with a question of how many lives needs to be lost in order to avenge the death of one man. The slain boko haram leader could have being avenged by the death of one person, a life for another. They did not stopped when they killed 21 people in the UN building; surely 21 people are more than enough to equate a single person’s death. They went further with their killings and even kidnapped 250 girls in Chibok Nigeria. Surely, their activities were out of hatred and deliberate …show more content…
They want to abolish western education. However, they are not ready to do away with the products of western education. Their preferred vehicle, the Toyota hilux is a product of western science. The tobacco they smoke is a product of western education. The mobile phones they use to coordinate their activities are a product of western technology. Alright, let us dig deeper. The guns they use and bombs they explode are products of western education. How can you say you do not want something and yet, you keep using it every single day?
