Architecture and interior design are incredible primary sources that have helped historians to look deeply into the cultural, social, and political value of any civilizations in the past. Space planning of a dwelling not only can reflect the function and activity of the people in one culture; it also allows us to have a micro/macro investigation on how people lived and the phenomenon customs that one culture practiced. This investigation is perfectly applicable in order to compare and contrast between the historical dwelling of the ancient Greeks and the life inside a Monastery in Medieval period. However, one thing that had never fallen was the religion of Christianity, and the church was playing a vital role in Christendom 's politics. During this time when the majority of people know nothing but superstitious belief, the church gives power to the State. Hence, the church was able to construct more Christian establishment, which is called the Monastery. Abbey of Cluny was the monastery constructed in medieval period in Romanesque style, and it served at the general institution for the area. The monastery firstly functions as the educational institution to educate to monks and common people. Moreover, it contains church and chapel for people to come together to pray, curating funeral ceremony, as other ritual performances. On the other hand, the place also functions as the Inn for travelers to take shelter. Ancient Greek 's residence has many significant inventions such as mud brick wall, but one of the most extravagant features would be flooring detail Tesserae that only used for important room. The tasserare is flooring motif that is made from small pieces of cut stones with squared edges, made from pebbles, stones, and lead. These motifs help to contribute the esthetic of ancient Greek and also redefine social meaning of function in residential housing of the Greek. The Abbey of Monastery looks up to the Roman manner for its architecture, where one can see the exploration of Romanesque style through out its Chapel. The roof of the chapel is constructed with barrel vault and heavy thick wall to support the weight of the arches. In conclusion, residential house in Ancient Greek and The Abbey Monastery in Medieval period are two distinctive architectural and interior structures that present two ideologies of socio-cultural and politic of their contemporary time.
