The Ancient Galaxies: The Milky Way

Improved Essays
For long did the scientist wonder how the ancient galaxies, known as the SMGs, managed to produce the stars so fast that the rate in which it produced stars exceeded that of the Milky Way by 1,000 times. There has been two theories that stood out above others, yet those too did not fully explain the scenario that the SMGs showed. New study has been published which, for the first time, explains and matches the properties of the SMGs.It suggests the galaxies tapped reservoirs of gas to produce the new stars, instead of merging with other galaxies. It caught my attention when the article claims that the properties of the Milky Way and those of the SMGs are different with each other. One would imagine, though of different size and shape, that

“A towel, [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-bogglying stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.” (Adams 26)This book makes everything you think you know sure that you know it. If half of the things in this book says is true then the earth is about to be taken over by aliens, earth was built by aliens for an experiment, and mice run experiments on humans not the other way around.…

A spiral galaxy is a certain kind of galaxy originally described by Edwin Hubble in his 1936 work The Realm of the Nebulae and, as such, forms part of the Hubble sequence. Spiral galaxies consist of a flat, rotating disc containing stars, gas and dust, and a central concentration of stars known as the bulge.(Sloan) Spiral galaxies resemble spiraling pinwheels, nearly 77% of space consists of spiral galaxies. Though the stars and other visible material contained in such a galaxy lie mostly on a plane, the majority of mass in spiral galaxies exists in a roughly spherical halo of dark matter that extends beyond the visible component, as demonstrated by the universal rotation curve concept. In the Hubble classification scheme: Spiral galaxies…

have chosen Gemini, because of its interesting shape and position in The Milky Way Galaxy. Gemini was one of the 48 constellations described by Ptolemy in the second century AD, amd it has been listed as one of the 88 modern constellations today. Gemini translates from Latin, literally meaning 'The Twins' because of its shape, which resembles two humans holding hands. The two brightest stars, representing the two 'heads' are named Castor and Pollux after the Greek mythological twins. The creation tale of Gemini is an interesting one.…

This episode of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, Neil deGrasse states that “this adventure is made possible by generations of searches strictly adhering to a simple set of rules: test ideas by experiment and observation, build on those ideas that pass the test, reject the ones that fail, follow the evidence and see where it leads, and question everything. “ The universe is 13.8 billion years old. Earth’s closest neighbor is the moon, it has no sky, no ocean, or life. Mars has as much land as Earth itself. If it was found out that other galaxies are not moving further, and further away from us quickly.. This would cause the Big Bang Theory too lose its credibility. Also if many other pieces of evidence were found out to be untrue , I believe this theory would lose much of its credibility. The first part of this theory, I will be discussing my main point, which is whether galaxies are moving away from us or not and at what speed. According to Hubble's law, the universe has been expanding since the creation of the universe.…

In the mid 20-ies of the last century the American astronomer E. Hubble found that the distance between galaxies in the observable universe is continuously increasing, like galaxies diverge from each other. At Hubble and his colleagues began to form the impression that the many billions of years ago in our days talking about 15 - 20 billion of the universe matter was concentrated in a very small volume with a fantastically high density, many orders of magnitude superior to the density of matter in the atomic nucleus . Suddenly for reasons which are built a variety of assumptions, it was what is now called the Big Bang, and of flying shards of primary clot began to form stars, galaxies and all matter around us. The explosion was accompanied by a huge bunch temperatures, as evidenced by the cosmic microwave background residual radiation discovered in 1965 by American astrophysicists A. Penzias and Robert Wilson. is a reflection of a billionth degree heat that permeated the universe in the first moments of its expansion.…

Edwin Hubble was an Astronomer and scientist who changed our entire cosmology and revolutionized the field of astrophysics. Hubble’s research helped to prove the universe is expanding and he also created a classification system for galaxies we now call the Hubble sequence. He has been called one of the most influential astronomers since the times of Galileo, Kepler and Newton. On November 20th, 1889 in Marshfield, Missouri, Edwin Hubble was born to parents John Powell Hubble, an insurance executive, and Virginia Lee Hubble. Hubble was the third of 7 children (space.com).…

All have different views and opinions on the universe and the study of the cosmos. Some eagerly learn all they can about the universe, whilst others prefer to focus on the events right in front of them. The pros and cons to having a wide understanding and perspective of the universe vary depending on prior knowledge and opinions. While some would rather halt space exploration entirely, many still hunger and yearn to learn more about the universe around them. The human race needs to gain more knowledge of space with a new perspective to better understand their past, home, and universe.…

Cosmic Paradox: Astronomers Discover Stars Possibly Older Than The Universe Age may only be a number, but when it comes to cosmic terms, it is important for certain rules to be obeyed. What we are saying is that it should not be possible for complex creatures to be older than planets or to have a rocky planet that'll predate the stars. It should even be impossible to have a star that is older than the observable Universe. Source: NASA (https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/hubble/science/hd140283.html) Scientists have declared that the Universe itself is 13.8 billion years old.…

Time is a concept that for a long time was thought to be untouchable. This was until black holes were discovered. These collections of matter hold the seemingly supernatural effect to alter time as we know it. A black hole is a star that has collapsed and become so dense that it creates a gravitational field strong enough that nothing, not even light, can escape. When a star dies it leaves behind a very dense remnant core.…

These gigantic clouds of gas and dust are the remains of stars that have been formed previously and that have undergone the entire life cycle (Ryan). Now of course these huge gas and dust clouds do not just stay gas and dust clouds. The stellar nebulas, “own gravity causes [itself] to start to collapse, it folds in on itself, and towards the center of that cloud it gets denser,” (Institute of Physics). As the cloud folds in on itself and the particles get closer and closer, they start to stick together, fuse, and form clumps (Institute of Physics).…
