Veins, capillaries, and arteries are considered a form of blood vessels however differing by their functions and shapes. The blood vessels are known to be an integral part of the circulatory system that moves oxygen and other essential elements around the body as well as removing waste. The arteries function in carrying blood away from the heart carrying highly oxygenated blood to the tissues of the body. It is also known to be the higher-pressure part of the circulatory system as they receive blood from the heart. However, the pressures in the arteries are different when the heart contracts and expands (the systolic and diastolic pressure). A pulse can be felt by the pressure shift. The aorta is the largest artery in the body found in the heart. The aorta obtains blood from the hearts left ventricle, which then branches out into smaller arteries, ultimately forming into arterioles that provide the capillaries with blood. The pulmonary arteries are another form of artery that transports deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs functioning to replenish, disposing carbon monoxide, and obtaining oxygen.
