The Importance Of Reinforcement To Achieve My Goals

Improved Essays
My overall goal is to reduce the amount of time I spend watching TV from 28 hours a week to 18 hours a week. In order to reach this goal, I have three sub goals to meet. Those goals are:
1. In the first month, I will cut down to 24 hours a week
2. By the second month, I will cut down to 22 hours a week
3. By the third month, I will cut down to 18 hours a week.
In order to make sure that I stay successful in achieving my goal, I need to make sure that I reinforce myself when I reach these milestones. I need to find some contingent reinforcers for when I reach these milestones. Which means that they are reinforcers that I will only receive when I reach those goals. If I don’t reach the milestones I will not receive the reinforcers. The first

A good friend of mine from high school is part of the theater and music program on campus. She has a few shows coming up near the end of the month. If I am able to meet the second milestone within the next few weeks I will purchase a ticket and go to the show. I am a big fan of music and theater so I always have a good time at her shows. I try to make it to as many of her shows as I can. It will be very reinforcing to be able to see her perform. If I was not able to meet my milestone in time I have a backup plan. I will go see a different play. I love watching plays and I will plan a day that I will go to a theater and make a day out of it with some family and friends. My family is another big reinforcement for me. I do not get to spend a lot of time with them anymore now that I moved out to be closer to school. Also, school work keeps me very busy so I do not get much of a chance to spend time with them. So being able to go to a play with them and some of my friends will be something that I will really want to do. This makes a great …show more content…
By the third month, I will have had to cut down to my ultimate goal of eighteen hours a week. This is the most difficult because it would mean that I am only allowed to watch a little over two hours of television a day. I am so used to watching so much more. I do believe that I can do it. If I am able to meet this mile stone I will need a big reinforcer to keep me going. If I meet this goal I will go to a Matt Steffanina class. Matt Steffaniana is a famous choreographer and dance teacher who has a studio in Hollywood. He holds different levels of hip-hop classes. It has been a goal of mine and a couple of my friends to take one of his classes. If I make my last milestone I will go to one of the classes with my friends. As I stated before dance is a huge part of my life and one of my favorite activities. Being able to go to even one of Matt Steffanina’s classes would be a huge reinforcers. If I am not able to make one of his classes because they are full or something I will plan a six-flag day with my friends. Our school offers discount tickets to Six-Flags and my friends and I love going. I have only been able to go to Six-Flags but when I went it was so much fun.
These are the contingent reinforcers I have planned for each of the milestones. Since I have meet the first milestone already I will plan a me day this Saturday. If I make the second milestone in time I will go to one of my friend’s performances. If I do not make it in

Loud beats, shouts and footsteps fill my ears, and an awful stench of sweat makes it’s way into my nose, but this dance studio is a special place nonetheless. It may seem hectic and rowdy to some people, but not to me. An environment I entered so cautiously at first started to become natural and safe. I had never thought I would spend so much time in this place doing something I loved. I would not forget how the first day went.…

There are two categories of reinforcement; primary and secondary. Primary reinforcers are food, drinks, and things that provide happiness; they do not have to be learned. Good morning, Thank you for your quick response. I appreciate your willingness to share how you implement a plan at home for Caleb as well as discussing with Caleb how he can improve on his social-emotion learning at school. It seems like Caleb is motivated to demonstrate a cheerful attitude when completing a task through earning stickers at home for a reward on the weekend. I would like to begin implementing the positive reinforcement plan we discussed with him at school beginning this Monday. It seems as though you, Mrs. Danysh, and Caleb have discussed a motivating reward for him at home (earning money for a savings account).…

The purpose of this case study is to evaluate the benefits of positive reinforcement in a social group setting for the elderly. Sometimes after the elderly are left in a retirement community by their family or some other reason, they are often left alone and with little to do. They are cared for by the medical staff and those who keep them fed to make sure that their physical needs are met, but that leaves it up to someone else to fulfill their social, mental and emotional needs. In the Bible God calls people to commune with one another, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24 New International Version), which speaks volumes towards the understanding that socializing together is good for not only the physical aspect in getting out and keeping our bodies alive, but it also helps to keep our minds alert and our…

Cocaine as with many of illicit drugs, can be backed a theory regarding why users experiment leading to use, abuse, and may become addicted. My theory behind drug usage, in this case, cocaine, is backed behind the classical theory biological instinct – that being a psychological theory of reinforcement. It is important to understand what is meant by reinforcement theory – which can be split into two categories. The first, being positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement “occurs when the individual receives a pleasurable sensation and, because of this, is motivated to repeat what caused it” (147, Theories of Drug use).…
