The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Many charities rely on grants or donations to continue to meet their pledged mission statements. A $10,000 grant has been put up for competition for the charity that explains why they deserve the $10,000 grant money rather than the other charities in the world. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was the first ever Humane Society in the United States. Founded in 1866 by Henry Bergh, he declared that the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals mission was, and is, “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.” (“About Us” 3). The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals should be awarded the $10,000 grant, because the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals grants money to Clear the Shelter campaign, hosts cruelty intervention efforts, and hosts the Los Angeles Initiative. In 2016, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals granted $150,000 to fund Clear the Shelter across the country. Forty NBC and Telemundo television affiliated with Clear the Shelter, paired with 680 shelters to host reduced or waived adoptions or spay/neuter (“Clear the Shelters” Event Finds Homes for More Than 46,000 Animals Nationwide”).
