The American Revolution: The Battle Of Saratoga

The American Revolution lasted from 1775 - 1783, and included many battles(“Revolutionary…”). The Americans fought the Redcoats to win the war and gain independence from Britain. In 1777, things were not looking too good for the Americans; they were losing supplies and soldiers. But, not all hopes were lost. In 1777, the Battle of Saratoga took place, in which 86% of British General Burgoyne’s troops were taken down(“The Battle of…”). Burgoyne planned to use the divide-and-conquer method but that didn’t go well(“The Battle of…”). He was relying on Canadian supply lines to keep his army going, but they were thinning out(“The Battle of…”). Even the Tories that said they would be there to fight, couldn’t stay true to their word(“The Battle of…”). All these let-downs kept adding up and eventually cost them the war. The Americans won the Battle of Saratoga. Meanwhile, the French were keeping tabs on the Americans, as they have since 1774(“The French Alliance”). They were looking for the right time to propose an alliance with them. This American victory made it clear that they were serious about claiming independence(“The French Alliance”). The Rebel is wearing a tattered uniform and is holding a small musket. The Redcoat is wearing a professional uniform and holding a Brown Bess rifle. One characteristic on my poster is symbols, shown as the American and British flags. One of the most common colonist stereotype was that they were poor or disorganized, as shown in background. The whole poster is an analogy because it compares the two lifestyles. Juxtaposition also plays a role because the British man is shown to look more buff, to show superiority.
