Wheatly’s view of America was changed tremendously because of the fact that the family that she was with had educated her because they saw potential intelligence in her (Waldstreicher, 100). Phillis Wheatly view probably changed from when she was shifted from her biological family to the Whealty family. The Wheatly’s teachings enhanced Phillis Wheatly’s idea of America into a positive one because Phillis ability to read and write captured the people’s attention and the individuals would listen to what Wheatly had to say about America. Phillis Wheatly’s poems about America and the anti-slavery topic gained Wheatly the people’s appreciation and the respect with her form of writing (Waldstricher, …show more content…
Dragging Canoe had a negative view about America because of the fact that he and his tribe had to go to war with the Americans over their land (Calloway,185). Based on the readings it seemed as if Dragging canoe had lots of hatred over the Americas and would not stop until he gained back the land they lost. Dragging Canoe was a symbol of resistance to his tribe and he tried to build a sovereign nation.
Nevertheless, the colonist, Phillis Wheatly, and Dragging Canoe all share differences and similarities on their views of America. Phillis Wheatly and dragging Canoe differ on opinion because of the fact that Dragging canoe fought against America because they were taking away his land and Wheatly was an active supporter of the fight against America. The colonist and Phillis Wheatly in a way share a similarity in the way that they both had high hopes for America. Reading and writing about different views on America during the Revolutionary Era gave me the opportunity to see the new nation become America and what influenced certain peoples view on it. I learned that the conditions people faced shaped their idea of the new nation. These views helped understand the Revolution through the eyes of different individuals and we get distinct perspectives on what America
