The American Medical Association (AMA) is fighting for DTC advertising to be banned. AMA states concerns people ask for drugs that are unnecessary and cost of prescription drugs is rising. According to AMA, there is “a 30% increase in money spent on ads in the past two years, which now totals $4.5 billion” (the fix, 2015). The opposing view from the pharmaceutical companies is that DTC advertising helps inform people to know what to talk to their doctor about for their health and treatment.
Bottom line is that advertising is meant to promote selling a product. It is not meant to replace going to the doctor or to go tell the doctor your own diagnosis and needed medication. Advertising preys on our desire to feed our own ego’s. The insecurity
