The American Glass Scandal

The purpose of this memo is making the recommendation to the Board Directors based on the description and analysis of the ethical scandals which has been recently surrounding in New Republic. This is confirmed that one of our young reporter, Stephan Glass has been fabricated subsequently false, made up articles which is described even doesn’t existing people and companies, web sites in our journal New Republic. Stephan Glass manipulated to slip his stories past his editors and fact-checkers without being discovered. This is very serious mistake that reporter could possibly commit, and also Glass puts our professional journalistic integrity and ethics on the high risk to destroy our reputation. Stephan lied to his editor. Glass manipulated his article “Spring breakdown” to pass fact-checkers. However, Michael Kelly knew that Glass committed an error and he fabricated about the bar tender in his article, Kelly even did not talk about the ethical responsibility of journalism. He also didn’t consider to take some accountability charge for fabricating even small piece of entire article. Sparing Glass’s small fabrication was a big motivation to his big desire to shine brightly in journalism industry. Maybe, Glass could have made another choice if Michael discussed with Glass about what he found out in Glass’s article and warned him that it was a serious ethical scandal and could be resulted significant influence either his or New Republic’s further career in journalism. Glass is a very intelligent, young individual who goes to extremes to write fiction and make the reader believe that what he is reading is fact. Therefore, his such a talent on fiction writing could have discovered earlier if any editor or fact-checker was carefully diagnosing from his
