The American Flag
The American flag is a symbol of the U.S.A. The flag stands for liberty, equality, and bravery. Out of the 239 years America has been a country, there have been 27 different official American flags, each flag with a different amount of stars.
On June 14th, 1777, the first ever American flag was created with 13 white stars and 13 white and red stripes. The 13 stars symbolized the first 13 states in the U.S.A., also known as the 13 colonies. This flag was created by Elizabeth Griscom Ross, also known as Betsy, a seamstress who lived in Philadelphia. This was the official American flag for 18 years, until April 30th, 1795. On July 4th, 1912, the 48th star was added to the American flag. The amount of stars on the flag increased
