Bernie Sanders once stated, “For many, the American Dream has become a nightmare”. The American Dream was a set of ideas that every citizen has the freedom and rights to achieve opportunity for prospects and success and also upward social mobility for family and children (The American Dream). Sadly, all of the American Dream ideology has been shattered due to lower wages and difficult job market, also the ideas of the American Dream has been overinflated, and the high cost of going to college.
First of all, with the decrease of wages, it makes the American Dream impossible to be achievable. The decrease of wages makes the American Dream impossible to pay off due lack of funding a person can provide to start a family, have kids, or have a job that you’ll love waking up too (Indiviglio). However, if the meaning of the American Dream has become too overinflated, how can people that agree with the fact that the American Dream is still achievable in today's society. In Source Three it explains how there was a man, named Mr. Nicholson, who declined a job due to him not liking it. As shown in the last paragraph where it talk about how there is a tough and competitive job market, Andrew Soergel also states in his article “Even Americans Can’t Afford the American Dream” that, “There's a growing pool of evidence suggesting inflation-adjusted wages have stagnated for decades...”(Soergel).
