From the very beginning of America there has been a prevailing ideology. Or maybe a wishful thought that somewhere there is a land where life is better, that despite struggle you can be great, that anyone from any background can prosper. College was cheap ranging from $200 to $5,000 a year, but now that cost would be wishful thinking. The, at least 260%, increase in tuition has killed the spirit of many rising and hopeful students. They usually can get that hope back by applying for student loans, which is becoming increasing common. After applying they get through college with a few challenges but otherwise they're not worried. However, afterwards your hit full force with student debt. A debt that tries its best to make it impossible to pay off. These loans are a factor in the fundamental change of the American dream. The loans have become such a problem that it has transitioned. Chronic depression and an overload of stress are common in the current generation of young adults. Many are stressed by debt and their inability to find their desired job or one with a high pay. The unsatisfactory career life this leads to causes many to fall into depression. It’s unfortunate for many since this trend shows signs of only increasing as time progresses. The young adults are going to continue stressing about school and the difficulty in getting the money necessary to function in our current society. This is in itself a personal
