In the early 1900’s blacks and women were not allowed to vote. Women gradually won their right to their own dream, when they received the right to vote, own property, and many other things that they could not previously do. Although black Americans had to wait until the Civil Rights Movement lead by Martin Luther King Jr. before they were allowed to vote and therefore able to get their own American Dream. Just 44 years after black Americans were allowed to vote, Barack Obama was elected as the first black president of the United States, all thanks to the American Dream.
I define the American Dream as one 's ability to be more successful than their parents were and therefore give their children better lives and opportunities than they were given. However, this does not imply that you have to be very wealthy to achieve the American Dream, it only implies that you are slightly more well off than your parents were. The one true way to achieve the American Dream is through hard work, and in the United States hard work is rewarded with better pay, a happier life, and a more successful life for you and your
