The American Dream is commonly viewed as owning a large house, a luxurious car, and financial freedom. However, the true definition of success and happiness does not list any of these. Success does not have anything to do with material goods but is rather tied to broader concepts. Today’s society is driven by a materialistic culture, which over time has rooted misperceptions of what it means to have success or be successful. Such capitalistic culture, can inflict with one’s view of what happiness truly means, therefore tying happiness along with success. True success and happiness requires respect, consistency, ethics, and patience which may be traits that by nature are difficult to attain for some.
