After being revealed to the modern world by Christopher Columbus of Italy in 1492, settlers started gradually pouring into this ‘New World’. Colonization first started in lower parts of North America like the modern-day Bahamas and Mexico where indigenous empires like the Aztecs were overthrown by Spanish and Portuguese Conquistadors. Soon, other European nations like France and the United Kingdom began colonizing to the north of Spanish territory. This was the age of exploration. In short, the United Kingdom began colonizing a majority of the Western World until the colonies revolted with the help of England’s greatest rival, France. This freedom gave birth to a government that was strictly American, a nation of immigrants, colonists, debtors, slaves, misfits, and religious outcasts, all alike. In this Brave New World, social status became a melting pot of equality, and thus, the idea of an American Dream was born. To quote Historian James Truslow Adams in 1931, "The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement."(Epic of America, …show more content…
