School, I was excited to start a new year in high school. The excitement of being an upper class was infused in my heart and my mind. As far as I can recall it, I met a colleague of in my theater class. He seemed to be amazed and surprised by everything around him. I couldn't wrap my mind on why he was acting in such manner. Weeks passed by, we were approaching our final six weeks and most importantly, our final was in our neck. I was never the student that voluntarily participated in a group, but impending final and my general

At my first encounter with him, I thought of him as an unimaginative and an uncooperative person. Over one week I had been so close to him that I was actually suspecting my own perceptions of others. Him and I connected our two different worlds and created our play. We included the theme of the bonding of a family over time through adversity and a parallel to the
American Dream. It was pictured from his point of view as well as mine. I had a extremely life than he did in Nepal. My initial feelings were ousted by my new feelings about him, family, and life as a whole. The encounter between him and
I made me question about the responsibility of a man in the society and made me realize what we see as differences are the underlying perception of finding common ground and trust. Nevertheless, my feelings had vastly influenced by this interaction and overall made me a more accepting and welcoming person. I would like to finish my essay with a quote about Aggieland because my interaction with him was similar in many way,"From the outside looking in you can't understand it, and from the inside looking out you can't explain

The Untraditional American Dream “Hallo, danke, bitte,” (hello, please, thank you) are just a few words that Jim Crawford (the author’s father) had to learn when he was deployed to an American Army base in Germany, Neureut Kaserne, in 1986. During this time, the Cold War was beginning to end. The Cold War was started to help protect Iran from the Soviet Union, aka communism. Even their names help to convey this, Horrocks sounds very simple and English whereas Raut sounds European and slightly more upper class. The story is set in three key places, in a garden, a railway crossing, and an iron works, which all have their individual gothic elements. The garden is portrayed as a dark, still place, with an atmospheric sky looming overhead, the railway crossing is where Raut experiences a near death incident, but oddly enough Horrocks saves him, then the final setting, the iron works, perhaps the most gothic of all. ‘As they came out of the labyrinth of clinker heaps and mounds of coal and ore, the noises of the rolling mill sprang upon them suddenly, loud, near and distinct.’…

My parent’s American Dream, similar to many other immigrants of the 1990s, was to seek a better life and to get access to more job opportunities. When I interview my dad about his difficult decision of leaving everything behind and move to a foreign country, he told me that during that time, China had a horrible economy and he just simply did not see a future in that kind of environment. When he heard about San Francisco, a land of gold and opportunities, he decided to take a risk and challenge the unknown, all for the chances of having a better future. When he finally stepped onto the rich soil of America, he dreamed about the possibilities of having a family, a better environment for his children, and most importantly about the opportunities…

Being a first generation American is truly a blessing. As a child I wanted my parents to adapt linguistically and culturally to the American culture. I was embarrassed of having parents who had an accent when they spoke. I was also embarrassed to have to translate for my parents when we went to places where the service was only available in English. They would tell me to translate but I was hesitant.…

It is cliché to say that one of the reasons for a foreign person migrates from one country to another is to pursue the dream they can’t achieve back in their home country, but it is true for me. I called mine American dream, not the dream of being free as President Ronald Reagan explained, or the culturally blended as explained in many western songs. It is simply the ability to further myself by having a college education, where you Dr. Seuss motto apply: you can be whatever you want if you believe so. Most people, if not all in the US always want to live the American dream at some point in their lives. But the question is, what is the meaning of the American dream, and how can people achieve this vague and elusive realisation? The American dream is a national philosophy or a belief that specifies the ideal factors such as democracy, freedom, rights and equality that accords every citizen equal opportunity to prosper and achieve their set goals (Glenn, 2002). The foundation of the American dream is deeply rooted in the declaration of independence that assert that “all men are created equal”. In simple terms, the American dream eliminates the artificial barriers to prosperity and promotes upward social mobility for every individual in the US depending on their hard work irrespective of their, social, religious, historical and racial background.…

Senior Year My greatest memory so far in my eighteen years of being on this earth is without a doubt my senior year of high school. It was absolutely unforgettable. My senior year as a whole (which was just last year) was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life and the happiest I have ever been. When I was a chubby little freshman with glasses I thought to myself that high school would be one of the longest time periods of my life and that four years would feel like forty years. But man was I wrong, high school went by in the blink of an eye.…
