The United States stands to be the number one most frequently immigrated country in the world.The idea that draws so many people to this country every year is the American dream of opportunity. Much of the world population is struggling to survive each and everyday, living on nothing and fighting a continuous fight against drugs and violence. The idea that draws so many Latin American’s attention is the idea that an individual can cross the border and suddenly be capable of providing a prosperous life for themselves or their family. This is an opportunity that to some, is not one that can be easily passed over. According to the Migration Policy Institute, “ In 2013, approximately 41.3 million immigrants lived in the United States, an all-time high for a nation historically built on immigration” (Zong,2015). One might wonder what is triggering this mass migration?.One of the greatest triggers to this drastic move from Latin Americans is the growing narcotic industry in Latin America. This industry perpetuates an environment of violence through the use of smuggling rings, kidnapping,and minor infiltration. This push of corruption within the Latin American countries creates panic in even the poorest of families motivating them to take on the hardships of the long journey to free themselves of their crime filled homes.
