The “American Dream” was sought to be the idea that every citizen of the United States of America has an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. That’s right, you heard me correctly. No matter the color of your skin, or whatever different country you are from; if you’re a legal American citizen, you’re said to receive, excuse me, entitled to have, an opportunity at the “American Dream.”
This Dream came about in the early days of our country’s settlement. It was mainly encouraged by poor immigrants wanting to get a fresh start; an opportunity if you will. This country was founded upon the grounds of “All men are created equal, that they are endowed with certain unalienable rights, among which are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” This is why so many immigrants have left and continue to leave their homelands to come to America. This term, rather this lifestyle, used to hold true in our great nation. It has broken away from its original intent. Picking and choosing who can prosper is why many came to this country one hundred years ago. To escape the life they had been born into. To achieve something greater than what at first glance, failure. Everyone in this country deserves the equal chance at the American Dream.
