The basis of the American Dream is that every United States citizen has the equal opportunity to become anything they want, through hard work, determination and initiative. Becoming “American” has been a constant topic brought up in mafia films such as Scarface, The codfather part I and II. The Corleone is a family run and operated business, founded on trust, support and protection. The Godfather displays the dark side of how the American Dream can affect who you become. Michael let the idea of the american dream push them to obtain power and greed which eventually lead to their downfall.

With power comes come respect, great responsibility and fear. This Rhetorical question was a constant recurring theme throughout both Godfather’s movies. When the audience first sees the introduction in the Godfather, the dark atmosphere sets the mood as scary and brooding; making the audience feels as though the man in front of the Don is going to be killed. Another example of how power takes place in the movie is during the scene when the movie producer wakes up with the horse in his bed signifies just how far the Corleone 's power reaches. There is an exchange of power between Don Vito and Michael, that leads to a big shift into how the Corleone family mafia is runned. Michael begins to take his throne as being the Don of the Corleone family, the question of how much power is too much arises. In the beginning Michael did not want to be his father, now he is even a more ruthless, vile person as the years pass by. Michael strives for the absolute control and power within their own ranks. Michael wants it all, the perfect family, the respect and the money. Once Michael kills his own brother, his flesh and blood is the moment he loses his soul. He becomes unrecognizable not only to himself but also the audience. Analyzing it further, Michela has completely fell into the role of the godfather, there was no line between family and business; his brain was narrowed down on strictly business. In life a person can not have it all, one has to be content and enjoy all the things in this world that one has
