Gatsby and The American Dream
In the 1920’s the American dream was what people were aiming to reach throughout their lives. In the book The Great Gatsby by, F.Scott, one of his main characters known as Gatsby is trying to fulfill his American dream. Gatsby fails to reach the dream of reliving his past. Which lead Gatsby to become dedicated to becoming a wealthy and successful man. Due to changes in society, the people had different ways of getting money, “Gatsby,who acquired his wealth through organized crime(e.g.,distributing illegal alcohol,trading in stolen securities,and bribing police officers)”. Gatsby used illegal crime to make his dreams of wealth become true. Gatsby’s ways of making money was through the distribution of alcohol. At the time the sale of alcohol was illegal due to the prohibition of alcohol. This is where Gatsby would receive most of his money from. Gatsby way of making money would be due to changes in society because there was new forms of making money illegally. He would sell alcohol illegally but did not care because it was all about making his dream of becoming rich become a reality. This illegal selling of alcohol did bring the dream of Gatsby become real of having expensive things.
