So after this catastrophic event took place the government and police looks different at people with a different skin color than white and black. They were also very racial towards both Zeitoun and Nasser because they thought they were terrorist waiting out the storm and terrorizing people’s house and looting places while everyone was gone. Living in the prison was horrible they were provided with no food, water had no bed and, barley any sleep. Zeitoun, Todd, and Nasser where all in the prison together and Nasser had all his money that he had ever saved up in his bag he carried around soon the soldiers took it and never gave it back to him. So all his life’s work of money was gone just like that, both Nasser and Zeitoun stayed in the prison a few weeks then was let out. But His empathy for animals contrasts starkly with the brutality that the prison guards demonstrate toward humans. He changed to an American hero to a corrupt hero because so after the hurricane he became crazy and all the time he spent during the hurricane and in the prison started coming back to him. Both Zeitoun and Kathy continue to suffer symptoms of post-traumatic stress that they both experience during the hurricane and away from the hurricane, but they persevere and refuse to leave New Orleans. They file a lawsuit demanding compensation for Zeitoun’s incarceration, but it had not progressed much by 2008, when Zeitoun was written. He also had charges of murder and went to jail again in 2016 for stalking Kathy and her husband. The story Zeitoun starts off very good and Zeitoun looks like an American hero doing good things and helping people. But closer to the end of the book it gets worse and worse form when he arrived at the jail. Then from there it got even worse from him having post traumatic trauma, and from there it goes downhill with all the charges and Zeitoun is still in jail
