Buzz Aldrin once said “I think the American Dream used to be achieving one's goals in your field of choice - and from that, all other things would follow. Now, I think the dream has morphed into the pursuit of money: Accumulate enough of it, and the rest will follow.” People in America have a conception, if they work hard, in order obtain the life they desperately desire. In The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, contemplating his loss of love due to the Great War, Jay Gatsby throws massive parties, hoping to see Daisy Buchanan at his house. Similarly, in Chicago, directed by Rob Marshall, Roxie Hart desperately desires to become a recognized dancer in the city of Chicago.…

There is nothing more powerful than the emotions that are brought upon a person that inevitably accompany the sensory descriptors that people experience every moment of everyday. Due to this, many writers incorporate descriptive writing meant to harness precise images that specifically targets sensory-oriented imagery in an attempt to force the reader to better emotionally connect to the literature as well as invent a unique atmosphere. As one of the Time Magazine’s All-Time 100 novels, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the well-known novel The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway both utilize an imagistic writing style throughout their literature. While both authors include the enticing aspects of imagistic writing, both portray the style in a unique manner. This results in the reader having a…

My favourite remediation of a novel or graphic novel is the 2013 movie Great Gatsby, which is the remediation of the novel Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Although the producer of the movie Baz Luhrmann altered many plots in the movie, he gave this novel life in our modern world. The movie has always been my favourite because it really elucidates and emphasizes the apathy of Daisy and Tom, the empathy of Nick, and the tragedy of Jay Gatsby's pursue of his utopia. The more times I watch the movie, the more I understand how Jay Gatsby forms his character. When I was reading the novel, I could clearly feel the shame and guilt Gatsby felt about his past and his relationship with Daisy throughout the text.…

These two novels take place in the 1920’s and 1930’s; the characteristics of these time periods are incorporated into both novels.…

In the book, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the character Jay Gatsby is favored by many people, including the narrator, Nick Carraway. However, Jay Gatsby is not who many people find him to be. ‘Jay Gatsby’ is a persona that he created to pretend that he can fit in with the wealthy class. Nick’s judgments of Gatsby makes this persona seem admirable and makes the reader feel sympathetic towards him even though Gatsby lies about his life. Gatsby hides the fact that he works in an illegal industry, selling alcohol, and continues to have an unhealthy obsession with a married woman.…

The major conflict that takes place throughout The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is Mr. Gatsby himself trying to win over the love of his life Daisy Buchanan, even though she is married herself and he lets nothing get in his way of that. To start off, Gatsby buys an extremely lavish mansion in West Egg, that is directly located across the bay of Daisy 's home, in East Egg. While Nick himself lives next door to Gatsby, once he arrives back into town for the summer, he goes to East Egg to visit his cousin Daisy and meets her friend Jordan Baker. Jordan remarks that Nick must know Gatsby, while Daisy states, “Gatsby, what Gatsby?” (Fitzgerald 11).…

In The Great Gatsby, author F. Scott Fitzgerald utilizes the subjectivity of narration to provide further insight into the characters of the story. Because the novel is told through a first-person point of view, objectivity is nearly impossible. That would require the narrator to disregard their personal feelings and opinions. Therefore, The Great Gatsby is a subjective narrative full of biased opinions about the lives of the wealthy in New York, during the roaring twenties. These opinions come from Nick Carraway, who is born into the upper class.…
