The American Counseling Association (ACA): Chapter Analysis

This chapter is completely different from previous chapters. It is focused on how counselors deal with everyday situations where concepts of morality and ethics are faced. The chapter defines morality as the judgment or evaluation of actions and ethics as a philosophical discipline that is concerned with human conduct and moral decision-making. Then describes the sixth principles in involved in the ethical decision-making. Those are: Autonomy, no maleficence, beneficence, justice, fidelity and last but not least veracity. The American Counseling Association (ACA) is educational, scientific, and professional organizations whose member’s works in a variety of settings and serve in multiple capacities. Counseling is an expert connection that enables diverse beings, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career ambitions.
The duty of the American Counseling Association is to improve the quality of life in society by stimulating the improvement of professional counselors, enhancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote admiration for human dignity and diversity. No specific ethical decision-making model is always most well-organized, so counselors are expected to use a honorable model of decision making that can bear public inspection of its presentation. Through a chosen ethical decision-making process and evaluation of the circumstance of the position, counselors labor collaboratively with clients to make decisions that promote clients’ growth and development.
