American Council Of The Blind Vs Paulson Personal Statement

In 2002, The American Council of the Blind sued the United States Government for discrimination because the size and feel of American banknotes are identical regardless of their face value. The court ruled in favor of the plaintiff in 2008 (The American Council of the Blind v. Paulson). The case struck me when I first heard it, and I am still fascinated by it. It sparked an epiphany in terms of my own creativity; it’s dangerous to follow repetitive routine blindly.

I discovered my passion for creative design after graduating from secondary school in Hong Kong, when I took a year off and worked as a visual merchandising trainee at a multi-brand fashion house. This was one of the most positive, life-changing experiences I have ever had. Not only did it give me a profession that I later became obsessed with, but it also served as a strong foundation for my professional and personal growth. I learned creative and innovative thinking from my mentor, whose inventiveness I admire to this day.

This experience inspired my recent obsession in culinary art photography. I particularly like the visual impact when all ingredients came together, and food plating reminds me of visual merchandising. Why are some soda bottles curvier than the others? Does it affect the preservation and the taste? Does it gives user a better grip when pouring? Question like these would broaden our minds and deepen our knowledge, qualities that are both extremely essential to idea development. I am confident that the Applied Imagination in the Creative Industries program would lead me to weightier questions that designed to inspire creativity, hence paved my path to revolutionary innovations and help me reach the level of success I know I’m capable
