What was the Civil War? The Civil War was a War between the North and the South. The two were fighting for two different things whether or not they should have slavery or government. The Civil war wasn’t just a war it was one of the most bloodshed wars in History. The battle lasted for four years. It started in April 12, 1861. The war lasted a while with thousands and thousands of soldiers falling every minute till victory was claimed by the North on May 9, 1865. During this war there was a particular soldier named Robert Gould Shaw.

“Robert Gould Shaw was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 10,1837. His parents were Francis and Sara Shaw. Then later on in 1846, the family moved to staten island, NY. When they arrived in New York
