First and foremost, throughout this play, Lady Macbeth is depicted as one of the main factors driving the story forward with her sights set on her husband becoming the king. She is the fire the fuels Macbeth's ambition and from her very first entrance onto the stage, she reads the news of her husband’s promotion to “Thane of Cawdor”. She immediately becomes fond of the idea of her husband becoming a king but doubts that he will do what is required to take the crown, to kill Duncan the king of Scotland.
