The Alt-Right: their past, what they believe, and their future In order to begin, we should start with some historic pretext to help understand where this political group comes from. We must begin in the 1960’s. In America, there was a new movement of conservatism as a reaction to Lyndon Johnson’s great society and the new left in American politics at the time. Some of the features of this ideology are, most notably, anti- semitism, economic liberalism, and other usually far-right ideas. As a consequence of being so broad with its ideas early on with different people supporting different things, it is difficult to decipher who believed what in that era. He basically went after Jewish people by stating, essentially, “He revived the strain of anti-Semitism on the right by making a Darwinian analysis of Jews. This also means that they would like to persevere Western Civilization from any outsiders that dare to take it down. By outsiders, they are referring to Jewish people, certain politicians, and any foreigner that wishes not to integrate into Western society. By Western Civilization, they are referring to the ideas of democracy, freedom of speech, and most of our civil liberties. Unlike regular conservatism, they have one set of beliefs on mind and they reject the idea of experimenting with the economy that many conservatives have done and are trying to implement today. Some of the ideas are: Freedom of trade, Catholic Traditionalism, low taxes, and the individual to be sovereign, and among other things. The alt right to an extent wants all of these things, but they have a different perspective towards the ideas that were put out of Modern Conservatism that came out during the 1964 presidential election. For instance, They would like to put in place a system of tariffs to protect industry; not a part of the idea of free trade. Furthermore, they believe that staying safe means that we might need to take away a few of your liberties for your safety. Given that how this group is organized in a big tent, there has been disagreements with certain beliefs that the group holds a perfect example of this one of the far-right groups leaders, Richard Bertrand Spencer, is an outspoken
