Joseph McCarthy said he had a piece of paper with peoples names on it that he was accusing of communism. There was a lot of chaos caused by that piece of paper which turned out to be false information on Joseph McCarthy’s part. Those people that were accused started accusing other people just to clear their name. Those false accusations on innocent people led them to being on trial and ultimately sentenced to death.
There was a lot of chaos during the McCarthy Era. Joseph McCarthy caused a lot of chaos from his accusations. With Joseph McCarthy making false accusations, he gained power over people. Joseph knew that if he could gain power that people would trust him. He abused the trust of a lot of people. He learned how to mess with people's trust. “McCarthy's accusations heightened the political tensions of the times.” This quote is talking about how McCarthy’s accusation made tension between people. The tension caused lots of false accusations. The accusations caused trials. Those trial were well publicized so that everybody could see the sentence. People who were put on trial blamed others to clear their name. “The trials, which were well publicized, could often destroy a career with a single unsubstantiated accusations. Those false accusations led to people being hanged.” This quote is talking about how the false accusations led people to death. Many of the people who were accused were hanged. They crushed Giles Corey because he didn’t deserve to hang. He was crushed under a bunch of heavy rocks. Some of the punishments that were given to the people who were accused were very unfair. In The Crucible, there were thought to be witchcraft in Salem. Many girl were thought to be bewitched by the devil. Many of the girls laid in their beds with their eyes open but were unresponsive. Some people had witnessed the girls dancing out in the forest naked conjuring spirits. When the girls were confronted they denied having any involvement even though there had been witnesses. The punishments from the false accusations wasn’t fair at all. People were put on trial and even killed for doing nothing. They were accused by others to clear their name. Joseph McCarthy caused a lot of chaos in that time. People were really inconvenienced because of him. He thought if he lied about people who he thought were connected to communism that he would gain power over people. All he did when he did that was cause complete chaos and a lot of trouble for people.
