Sneaker Evolution Men’s footwear has evolved a lot since when it first started in 1935. The footwear trend started with the famous sneakers the “All-Star” Converse and has now transformed into the famous brand for the millenniums which are the Jordans. The “All-Star” Converses was the very first sneaker to become popular in 1935 which was used for everything as a style or to play ball in them. That’s how some athletes used the “All-Star” Converses. Michael Jordan is a famous basketball player who created his own brand of sneakers called “Jordan” which he promoted when he was playing at his basketball games. Converse was a world wide spread popularity sneaker. The “All-Star” converse wasn’t only for style, athletes as professional basketball players used Converse to play in the court. Converse had a huge impact on professional basketball because the basketball players used them on the 1936 Olympics. Even the High schools and colleges had a huge impact on the Converse because they would change the colors of the Converse to match their uniform in which they played in. By changing the colorway of the Converse introduces them into a classic collection. But one of the very first popular sneaker was known to play basketball in, it also grew known with fashion. Everyone started wearing their Converse with some jeans and just a simple black or white t shirt. Although, it has became a blurred between athletic and a casual sneaker the Converses are still wore today in many different ways. Another, sneaker that was very popular in the era 1970’s was the three stripe adidas. Especially, the colorways that was very popular was the all black with three white stripes or all white with three black stripes. Especially for the young teens as that is how they express their individuality, sneakers are being promoted by everyday people which influence other teens to buy them and that's what makes the sneakers more popular. The popularity of the footwear has become such a valuable essential especially to the youth when they're trying to make it a cultural movement. Millennials look at the others people's shoes and view them as classics which makes them want to buy sneakers making them popular in the sneaker industry. The popularity of the sneakers revolves around the design, the material, and the quality of it. The main importance is the style and the it goes with your fashion statement. Many of the trends for sneakers start in social media which creates bandwagons towards the sneakers culture. It all, “With social media rising in popularity and big budget commercials on the decline, the shoe game saw an influx of social media influences”(Battle). For example, for sneakers there are no commercials about these specific types of shoes but on social media there's pictures, history, the release day of the shoes, and the millennials posting about their collection they have so far. Many people believe that sneakers are used as a status symbol but in reality they are a form of expressing themselves to the sneaker culture.
