Good Morning Mrs Lamplough and class. Paulo Coelho the author of the incredible life changing novel, The Alchemist, a novel that is well-worthy for the Grade 12 Syllabus. This passionate story contrasts completely with the theme of death and sorrow in both my drama Hamlet by William Shakespeare and my 2 poems by the talented Robert Frost.
The passionate story told in the Alchemist, begins with Santiago. Much like you and I, Santiago is in search of his treasure. During his journey we witness him develop through his fate, fear, dreams and destiny in life and how this helps achieve his goals. Through these themes I have learnt many life lessons on how to never let fear stop me from achieving what I want because the goal is always worth it. If you can believe that “The secret of life, is to fall seven times and to get up eight” then there will never be a goal you can’t achieve. Robert Frosts poems, “Fire and Ice” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” have multiple meanings. This is positive as many students can relate in different ways by interpreting the different meanings. Take the poem “Fire and Ice,” this poem can be interpreted in two ways, the first being literal where the world would either end in fire or in ice. The second and more plausible is the emotive version, where fire is a metaphor for desire or passion and ice for hate. This challenges the students understanding and encourages debate within the
