The Alchemist Paulo Coelho Life Lessons

In Paulo Coelho’s, “The Alchemist,” the two most important life lessons makes everyone’s lives easier, if they follow. Throughout the novel, Paulo Coelho illustrates numerous events of Santiago struggling through life. If Santiago had all the important life lessons Coelho demonstrates throughout the story, Santiago would get to the treasure much quicker. Coelho displays the ups and downs of Santiago’s life throughout the novel. To never stop dreaming is also an important life lesson for Santiago because without dreaming of the kids playing with his sheep, Santiago is never going to go to the Gypsey and figure out what the dream means. Santiago explains his dream to the gypsey as, “ [He] dreamed that [he] was in a field with [his] sheep, when a child appeared and began to play with the animals”(p. 40). This indicates that Santiago dreams about his future of going on the journey to the Pyramids. This means that Santiago’s journey starts with him dreaming. This also demonstrates the idea that Santiago has his whole life figured out by just one dream, and that if people do not stop dreaming, life will give people rewards in life. Santiago would not meet the Alchemist and Fatima because he meets them along the journey to the Pyramids. This indicates that the only impossible journey is the one a person never begins and this illustrates that if someone does not go on their journey, then they would never meet the people they met along the
