Every year, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has reported considerable progress of healthcare quality among the ethnic group. However, there are few opportunities and challenges that still hinder access of quality care. In 2010, approximately 33% of the USA of the population was people of the ethnic minority groups. These includes the African American (12.9%), Hispanics/Latinos (16.9%), Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders (NHOPIs) (0.2%) and the American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/ANs) (1.0%). It has been projected that by 2050, the minority groups will account for 50% of the USA population (OMH, 2015). Evidently, the USA is a diverse nation, and it is accepted to become substantially more diverse in the next several decades. Although health disparities have narrowed from 1990s in the recent years, the minority general health status is poorer as compared to the Non-Hispanic white. Approximately 50% of the African American suffers from chronic illness such as cancer, diabetes, and mental health. This is attributable to the fact that the minority group have low level of education and household income (OMH, 2015).
Education and income are significant predictors of health and ability to access quality care. For example, the African American and Hispanics is twofold likely to live in poverty as compared to Asians and Whites.
