It is sad that there are so many taboos they must face every day. There was one quote from a speed dater named Addie (2014) that really struck me “I have to be out there. I haven’t changed. Just because I’m older, I have not changed. The essence of who I am is always there.” Even though this is a simple quote it really is the truth. No matter how old you are, you are still you. Your values are still your values, and you still have the same biological needs. The need to be loved doesn’t just turn off once you hit a certain age. I really never thought about how older adults would become lonely without a significant other to share their experiences with. As I assumed they filled their time with friends and grandkids. I am very disappointed in myself for this narrow-minded thinking. However, I am so pleased to have had this opportunity to watch this movie to get me really thinking about this topic. After watching this movie, I understand that there is a big need for education. Older adults need to be educated on safe ways to meet potential intimate partners, and they also need to be educated on safe sexual practices. Along with this the older adult needs to be assured that these relationships are a normal natural part of life and not to be ashamed. Along with educating the older adult, families and healthcare workers (nurses, physicians, and CNA’S) need to be educated on why these relationships are important and how to support a healthy
