In 1939 the world was at war, and nothing would ever be the same. Adolf Hitler was the man that was responsible for the millions of lives lost. Wanting to restore Germany to her formal glory, Hitler thought of doing so through racial dominance. Cities were bombed, civilians brutally killed, and mass genocide was committed. He was doing this with the intention of breaking their hope. On lookers from other countries were turning a blind eye to war. By 1940 Germany, Japan, and Italy signed the Tripartite Agreement with the intentions on ruling the world. Soon more countries were bombed and more lives were lost. The Nazis were brutal in their attacks destroying everything that they could. Going against the rules of war, the Axis powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan) bombed civilian populations. Taking down city after city until it was nothing but rubble. Industrial powerhouses and political buildings were strategically attacked more than military bases. “Strategic bombing during World War II began on 1 September,1939, when Germany invaded Poland and the Luftwaffe (German Air Force) began bombing cities, and civilian populations in Poland” (Werrell and Alan). The plan was not to necessarily destroy the military, but to obliterate the economic resources of the enemy. Though it was not just Germany that was bombing civilian communities, it was England and the United States too. Using the cover of the dark clouds, British air forces dropped thousands of bombs on an industrial city in Germany. Destroying over half of the city, leaving thousands of people homeless, starving, or dead. In the early morning of December 7, 1941, Japanese’s air forces attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, submerging most of the US Naval force to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. The United States before hand was in no way participating in the war, but after the bombing the game changed. Four years of war later, the United States dropped two nuclear bombs on Japan, doing catastrophic damage to the land. The city of Hiroshima was leveled completely, destroying over 80% of the city from the blast and the following firestorm. Soon following the city of Nagasaki was nuclear bombed too. Japan was flattened and defeated. It took several years, and multiple plans of action before living spaces were rebuilt. The people of Japan were homeless and starving for years due to the war. All across Europe cities were having to rebuild cities due the bombing in World War II. Bombing across the
