The museum was opened in this year as a memorial act to remember that African American Firefighters has been serving the county for hundred years (1897-1997). The African American Firefighter Museum is open to the public with free entrance. The museum is completely run by volunteers. Most of the African American Firefighters museum stories are addressed by the legend Arnett Hartsfield, who served in Los Angeles Firefighters department for twenty years without receiving any promotion. Hartsfield has suffered wide activities of racial discrimination, which he kept addressing throughout different event while serving as a volunteer in the museum. Hartsfield used to volunteer in the museum two days a week to share his stories with the public. He used to tell the public stories about his life history, but he would stop and tell the public to stop complaining and be grateful. Arnett Hartsfield was trying to tell the public the achievements of the African Americans fighters. The presence of Arnett Hartsfield in the museum was the biggest service he can do for America. Arnett Hartsfield was travelling thought the country to invite people from all over the states to come and visit the museum. He was trying to let the public explore this page of the American history. The sufferings of the African fire fighters were the driving force behind the history of this museum .The thrives of the African American women were symbolized in Michele Banks, who is now the president of the African American museum. The efforts of the African American figures have brought equality among the black and white fire fighters. Examples of those figures were Arnett Hartsfield who kept working on his dream of equality between the black and white firefighters until he died.
