The Afghan-American Refugee

Decent Essays
This is outrageous, I can not believe my eyes and my ears. Are we in America? Is this happening in America? This should be happening in other countries like Afghanistan, not in America. This voice is not the voice of Bruce, this is not the voice of most of our neighbors, families, loved ones, colleagues, the Americans I know living across America, the First Lady, the President, me, as well as an Afghan-American refugee. And I don't think between all of us, any one can get as American as I can get, including the godly men. And definitely this is not my voice, definitely. What are you thinking? For cry out loud not only two of you are immigrant descents, but also your cell phones, iPads, and computers are made by the son of a Syrian refugee.

The social construction of ‘boat people’ who arrive in Australia is affected by a tripartite process involving the press, government policy and the Australian population. The media represents the refugee experience through manipulated facts to engender certain responses from its audience. Headlines such as Unstoppable flow of asylum seekers and Navy on high alert as armada threatens use words such as “swelled”, “unlawfully” and “fake” to incite a negative association with refugees.
