There were many actions taken by congress, presidents, and courts while this law was being made and trying to get passed. In July of 2009, the speaker of the house which is Nancy Pelosi and a group of democrats reveal their plan for the health-care system. The name of their plan, which was H.R. 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act. A month after announcing their plan senator Ted Kennedy dies, he was one of the main supporters of the health-care reform. This put the health-care reform in jeopardy because the 60th seat became empty and a supermajority was needed to pass. The seat was soon filled and that put the plan back into action. In the House of Representatives the bill goes on to the Senate with a 219 Democrat vote and 1 Republican for the Affordable Health Care for America Act, with a 39 Democrat and 176 Republican vote against it. When the bill went to the Senate it lacked the 60th vote needed to pass. However, they took a different route by using the budget reconciliation only needing 51 votes to pass. It was approved by the house with 219-212 vote for the bill. On March 23, 2010, president Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into a law (History of Affordable Care Act). After the law was passed, there were a few bumps that needed to be fixed. After the pitfalls had been revived and fixed the courts started having problems come into their court pertaining to the Affordable Care Act.
