In United States of America, there has been a change in health policy after the lawmakers came together to rectify the flaws in our limited healthcare. With the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the national health focus has been shifted towards disease prevention and health promotion. The affordable care act provides the largest coverage of behavioral health in history. Under the Affordable Care Act, health plans must cover preventive care which in previous years was not catered without copayment and deductibles. This includes the coverage for mental health, substance abuse use disorder that is comparable to coverage of medical and surgical care. Behavioral help affects population across the lifespan. According to Taua et. Al., nurses role includes but not limited to advocacy/health promotion; assessment; behavioral interventions; communication; leadership; functions regarding medication administration; and safety and risk management. Children, adults, geriatrics are all affected by the behavioral issues. Dual disability is more common today partly due to advanced technology of diagnosing diseases. Due to complex needs of the nursing today, dual disability requires nurses to have more advanced skills. Nurses with advanced skills are well placed to provide care. govSummary and Conclusions
The ACA expanded healthcare to all American who were stigmatized, discriminated who were previously being denied coverage or overcharged. With the signing of the new law people with behavioral health issues can afford to seek medical help. Services like counselling are now covered by insurance. Pre-existing conditions can no longer bar an individual from getting health insurance. There was no rational basis for this discriminatory health insurance practices.
Promoting preventive care, and offering services at an affordable rate has given an estimated 47 million eligible persons health care
