Without going into detail, ‘animal cruelty’ is just another commonly used and overlooked word. However, the real truth about animal cruelty is horrific. Each year millions of animals suffer and die from animal abuse from humans. Why should humans be able to torture innocent living beings who have no voice to speak up? Animal cruelty is more than just treating animals in an unkind behavior. There are different types of animal cruelty including animal experimentation, use of animals for sports and entertainment, and animal breeding operations. Animal experimentation is a big form of animal cruelty that people perform on animals. The testing on animals is allowed anywhere in the United States no matter how brutal or abusive. Horse racing, dog fighting, and cock fighting are one of the most common types of animal sports. Race horses are raced to their maximum potential. In most cases, the Tibia bone in the horse's upper leg snaps, and fully pops out of the horse's leg while running in a race. This causes the horse excruciating pain for the animal. The owners of horses that suffer from this injury most of the time solve the problem with shooting their horse. They often times die of heart explosions on the race track. A variety of drugs are given to the horses to mask major injuries and are then forced to race without given time to recover. When a horse comes to a certain age where it can no longer race or win races, it is either shot or sold to the slaughterhouse to be killed and used as ingredients in various dog foods. Dog fighting has been a major issue in the animal abuse cases for many years. Dog fighting is illegal, therefore finding victims to this crime is time consuming. The places where people watch their dogs fight are hidden very well. Before the fights occur, owner's beat, starve, and drug their dogs to make them the most aggressive that they can be. The most aggressive dog wins the fight. The dogs used in this sport are kept in horrible conditions. They are most of the time chained up outside with little or no shelter. A puppy mill is a business that breeds all different types of dogs, and they care more about making a profit over the well being of the animals. Dogs are kept in overcrowded cages that are stacked on top of one another. Feces and urine covers the dogs from head to toe. Puppies are separated from their littermates and mother at a young age. This causes the dogs to develop anxiety, fear, and other behavioral problems that stay with the dogs for a lifetime. The animals living in puppy mills do not get regular veterinary checks like they are supposed to. This being the case, the dogs have all kinds of health issues. Most of them being heart diseases and respiratory disorders. When the puppies arrive at pet stores, they usually carry parasites and have pneumonia. The female dogs used for breeding are constantly being impregnated until the day they cannot reproduce anymore. When the dogs become a certain age to where they cannot reproduce, they are killed. A factory farm is a large industry worldwide that raises mass numbers of farm animals focusing on making a profit rather than the best for their animals. The most common animals that they mass produce are chickens, pigs, and cows. The chickens are one of the most abused animals in the factory.
